The restorer and caretaker of the organ for the last 50 years will talk about the history of the organ at the Park, its modifications, restoration and maintenance.  A rear view of the organ’s mechanism will be described and shown in operation.

Before Glen Echo’s wonderful W. H. Dentzel carousel was delivered from Philadelphia in 1921, the park featured a large carousel created in Coney Island by W. F. Mangels with horses and chariots by M. C. Illions. This presentation will consider why each of the carousels was purchased, compare the regional styles of the two manufacturers, introduce the men who carved and built the two carousels, and show how W. H. Dentzel recycled elements from the Glen Echo Mangels carousel into a “new” carousel in 1922.

We'll be live from the carousel building with Emcee Liz Dapo from the Puppet Co. and her sidekick (you’ll see when you tune in!), as well as Glen Echo Park Partnership Executive Director Katey Boerner and Partnership Board President Bonnie Casper. We will also have special messages from Senator Chris VanHollen, Congressman Jamie Raskin, Maryland Delegate Marc Korman, Montgomery County Councilmember Andrew Friedson, and other special guests!

Join Glen Echo Pottery at their outdoor market. Browse through pottery pieces created by over 35 potters. The perfect place for one of a kind artwork. Masks and social distancing will be enforced. Credit cards and checks will be accepted.

The Winter Outdoor Pottery Market at Glen Echo Park will be in compliance with all Montgomery County Covid restrictions. Crowd size will be monitored to ensure safe distancing, and all will be wearing masks. We are maintaining awareness of county policy changes, and will adapt as needed to provide a safe experience for potters and shoppers.

April's event features a thematic open mic focusing on opposites, specifically beginnings and ends. Come prepared with at least 2 pieces (poetry or other), one on beginnings and one on ends, with an option of a third piece on a topic of your choice. Plan to adhere to a 4 minute time limit although this may need to be adjusted depending upon the number of people signing up. Screen sharing is always an option if you want to have your poems displayed

February's event features Derek N. Otsuji  and Mark Tarren.

Derek N. Otsuji is the author of The Kitchen of Small Hours, winner of the 2021 Crab Orchard Review Poetry Series Open Competition.  It will be published by SIU Press in fall 2021.  His poems have appeared or are forthcoming in The Threepenny Review, The Southern Review, Rattle, Poet Lore, and Pleiades.

Mark Tarren is a poet and writer who lives on remote Norfolk Island in the South Pacific.  A Pushcart nominee, his poems have appeared or are forthcoming in various literary journals including The New Verse News, The Blue Nib, Poets Reading The News, Street Light Press, Spillwords Press, Tuck Magazine and Impspired Magazine.
