Experience the exuberant and community-centered tradition of samba at EducArte’s Sarau de Samba, a monthly celebration of Afro-Brazilian culture in the heart of the DMV. Renowned local Brazilian performers Pablo Regis, André Coelho, and Mariana Triginelli lead the Rio de Janeiro style music and dance event. Samba is an interactive experience and we invite you to join the sarau de samba. 

Set in the historic Glen Echo Park, Sarau de Samba features a dynamic ensemble of skilled musicians and dancers, showcasing the diverse rhythms of samba, from Golden Age classics and choro to modern pagode and high-energy carnival beats. More than just a performance, this event invites attendees to become part of the music, with opportunities to dance, sing, and even play instruments alongside the professionals. Each session starts with a beginner dance lesson. The event is open to people of any skill level, no partner or instruments required.

Sarau de Samba is presented by the region’s premier Brazilian performing arts presenter EducArte in partnership with Glen Echo Park Partnership for Arts & Culture. Glen Echo Park is a family friendly venue and park that offers free parking and is easily accessible by public transportation. Food and drink are for sale. 5:00pm: Bootcamp | 8:15pm: Lesson | 9:15pm - 1:00am: Social Dance

Join us on Saturday, February 7 for a Brazilian zouk bootcamp so you can learn the basic techniques used in this social dance. Jumpstart your zouk journey by learning the basics at an accelerated pace so you can get comfortable on the dance floor.

Bootcamp tickets also include admission to the evening lesson and social dance.

Join District Zouk for an evening of dancing with music by DJ Afrodeshiak and DJ Chuky. Everyone is welcome - no partner or experience required. 

Open level class 8:15-9:15pm with Elena Rovito included with admission. Practica at the start of the night 7:00-8:15pm is a practice session especially for any lambada dancers.

Beginner lesson in Foxtrot at 2:45 PM by guest instructors Paul and Diane McRoberts. Music by DJ Broomtime from 3:30 until 6:00. The music covers a variety of ballroom dance styles: Slow Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Quickstep, Viennese Waltz, Rumba, Bachata, Cha-Cha, Samba, Mambo, East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing, Hustle, Merengue, and more. During the afternoon there will be a mixer and some samba line dancing.

Join Waltz Time for an afternoon of waltzing and more to live music! At 2:45 pm, we offer a beginner lesson on social waltz (included with admission) which provides the basics and confidence to join right in dancing. At 3:30 pm, Handspring with Carrie Rose (flute), Alexander Mitchell(violin/viola), Owen Morrison(guitar, piano) provide live music consisting of mostly waltzes interspersed with polka, schottishe, tango, swing and other favorite styles. Dress in layers, the ballroom will be chilly. No partner needed, all are welcome. The lesson is suitable for ages 12 and up.
