    Park View Show
    Description

Opening Reception: Friday June 10th, 6 pm - 8 pm

The Park View Gallery presents All Natural, featuring the artwork of Caitlin Gill, an emerging mixed media artist. The show explores femininity and its relationship to nature, western culture and women. Women continuously are linked to nature historically and culturally yet are refused the most natural basic animal instincts and acts (territory, aggression, fitness) as these are demarcated as unfeminine, or inherently masculine. This contradiction plagues the artist, and her work attempts to reconcile how to be simultaneously feminine and natural.

    Footwork by Andy Yoder
    Description

Opening Reception: Friday June 10th, 6 pm - 8 pm

On view in the Stone Tower Gallery in June is artist Andy Yoder’s solo exhibition Footwork, featuring his most recent work. According to the artist, “There are scores of solid, practical reasons not to be an artist, but luckily there are also some advantages. Being an artist teaches you to embrace randomness and uncertainty, rather than trying to avoid them. This comes in handy, because no matter how much we try to control and order our lives, the messy, chaotic outside world finds a way to intrude, which is what makes it so interesting.”

Opening Reception - Decades Ahead: Visions of the Future

    4 pm - 6 pm

    Decades Ahead
    Description

The Popcorn Gallery presents Decades Ahead: Visions of the Future, featuring the works of over 20 artists based in the DC Metro Area. This year, the Glen Echo Park Partnership for Arts and Culture is celebrating its 20th anniversary. As we reflect on our achievements and contributions to the arts community over the last two decades, we also look ahead and consider how we can have a greater impact in the region in the decades to come. To commemorate the anniversary, we invited local artists to submit works that convey their vision for the future. The works in this exhibition explore the concept of the future from personal, cultural, social and political lenses. Through a variety of media, including but not limited to painting, drawing, sculpture, and textile work, the artists featured in this exhibition share their many different visions of what the future may hold. Some present concerns about our environment and relationship with technology, while others offer utopian visions for the way society can become more inclusive and vibrant. Together, the works featured here invite viewers to ponder their own idea of what the future holds. What will society look like in decades to come? How would the arts impact our culture decades from now?

    Opening Reception: Boundaries

    4 pm - 6 pm

    Boundaries
    Description

On view in the Stone Tower Gallery, artist Travis Childers presents Boundaries, a solo exhibition featuring his most recent work. Using everyday materials, Childers elevates the seemingly mundane and simple into new objects, infusing them with meaning though always keeping each object’s original purpose in mind. Sometimes playing with scale, other times using an abundance of the same material, Childers explores the idea of boundaries and the way in which crossing the boundaries around us can sometimes lead to inspiration and positive change, and other times to destruction and disaster.
