ABOUT THE BAND
In October 2012, vocalist Chelsea Reed brought five of her friends together to play some tunes in a South Philly dining room. Her plan was to form a band that played for swing dancers, so she could finally have the chance to sing her favorite songs for an audience that loved the music of Bessie Smith and Billie Holiday as much as she did. Since that fateful day, she’s been living that dream and couldn’t be happier about it.  

Now, Chelsea Reed and the Fair Weather Five are at home at swing dances, jazz clubs and concert halls alike. They have played renowned Philadelphia venues and travel the country year round to perform at music festivals and Lindy and Blues exchanges and workshops. They have had the honor of sharing the stage with trumpeter Terell Stafford and trombonist Wycliffe Gordon, who is featured on their 2017 release Spreadin’ Rhythm Around. Their 2020 release, Carolina Lullaby showcases original songs steeped in jazz, blues, and folk traditions where Reed’s vocals and swing musicality shine. 

When not composing, the band loves exploring the roots of jazz and finding creative ways to interpret forgotten songs. Chelsea Reed and the Fair Weather Five draw upon the intensity of powerhouse vocalists, the ingenuity of 20th century composers, and the soul of the dance floor. They are silly, passionate people who love playing this music. And that’s all there is to it.

We are thrilled to partner with multi-instrumentalist and organizer Alex Lacquement to bring the lively Honky Tonk event he has cultivated in Baltimore to our own Bumper Car Pavilion! Join us for a free dance lesson in Two Step followed by an evening of dancing to live music with Rusty Sal. No prior experience needed and you don't need to bring a partner.

Join us for DC Rawhides' debut dance at the Park! An inclusive, diverse, affirming, fun, high energy LGBTQ+ dance, where all are welcome, structured so all levels of dancers, including beginners, can participate.  We dance two-step, west coast, waltz, and line dances to country western and contemporary music.

A free dance lesson is included with the price of admission from 7-8pm. The first half hour will be the line dance Fireball and the second half will be a partner dance tutorial.

District Zouk is celebrating 10 years of teaching Brazilian zouk in Washington DC with a full weekend of workshops and social dancing at Glen Echo. We're featuring current and former instructors who helped us build this community. We have open level workshops, some for beginners (Saturday) and some for intermediate and advanced dancers, plus daytime and nighttime social dancing.

Tickets are available for the full weekend or for single days on a sliding scale to enable as many people as possible to attend. You can also attend just the evening socials.
