DCLX hosts a swing dance in the Spanish Ballroom!

We recently asked you to join in for the DCLX main event. Now you can keep that momentum going with our upcoming DCLXtra! Come dance to live music by The Corner Pocket Jazz Band, led by Jon Tigert, of Baltimore, MD, who are dedicated to celebrating the swinging sounds of the 30s, 40s, and 50s. 

Schedule:

8:00pm - 9:00pm: Beginner drop in Lindy Hop lesson (no partner needed) 

9:00pm - 11:59pm: swing dancing to fantastic live music 

Covid policy:
Masks are welcome. DCLX will not be checking vaccination status for this event.

DCLX is pleased to present a DCLXtra with Ian Hutchison and Slap Happy from New York City. It’s been several years since Ian was last in the Glen Echo Park Spanish Ballroom, and his appearance is sure to be just as exciting as the last. Ian will be fronting a 7-piece combo that will keep you dancing all night.

9:00-11:59pm ~ Swing Dance with Chelsea Reed and the Fairweather Band

Chelsea and her band will play two sets perfect for Lindy and one set of blues to finish the evening.

ABOUT THE BAND
In October 2012, vocalist Chelsea Reed brought five of her friends together to play some tunes in a South Philly dining room. Her plan was to form a band that played for swing dancers, so she could finally have the chance to sing her favorite songs for an audience that loved the music of Bessie Smith and Billie Holiday as much as she did. Since that fateful day, she’s been living that dream and couldn’t be happier about it.  

Now, Chelsea Reed and the Fair Weather Five are at home at swing dances, jazz clubs and concert halls alike. They have played renowned Philadelphia venues and travel the country year round to perform at music festivals and Lindy and Blues exchanges and workshops. They have had the honor of sharing the stage with trumpeter Terell Stafford and trombonist Wycliffe Gordon, who is featured on their 2017 release Spreadin’ Rhythm Around. Their 2020 release, Carolina Lullaby showcases original songs steeped in jazz, blues, and folk traditions where Reed’s vocals and swing musicality shine. 

When not composing, the band loves exploring the roots of jazz and finding creative ways to interpret forgotten songs. Chelsea Reed and the Fair Weather Five draw upon the intensity of powerhouse vocalists, the ingenuity of 20th century composers, and the soul of the dance floor. They are silly, passionate people who love playing this music. And that’s all there is to it.

Join us for DC Rawhides' dance at the Park! An inclusive, diverse, affirming, fun, high energy LGBTQ+ dance, where all are welcome, structured so all levels of dancers, including beginners, can participate.  We dance two-step, west coast, waltz, and line dances to country western and contemporary music.

A free dance lesson is included with the price of admission from 7-8pm.

Join District Zouk for a Brazilian Zouk & Lambada Social at Glen Echo Park—this time in the outdoor Bumper Car Pavilion! As usual, we'll have an open level beginner-friendly class followed by social dancing. We'll also have a lambada practica before the class so our lambada students and dancers can practice together. Come learn and dance with us!
