  • STONE TOWER GALLERY | SAARALIISA YLITALO, WHISPERS AND GHOST KISSES

    12:00pm - 6:00pm

    Paper art
    Description

The Stone Tower Gallery presents Whispers and Ghost Kisses, a solo exhibition by artist Saaraliisa Ylitalo. The artist writes, “When someone close to you dies, often after this moment in time, you experience reminders of that person. They come out of the blue, from hearing a song on the radio or seeing a flower, going to a restaurant and even from something someone says in a certain way. It can be a quick spark or sometimes even a jolt that makes us remember who has left our lives. These moments for me after losing my husband usually made me sad. Recently I have thought of them differently and now they seem not so painful. If I think they are a ghost kiss from him, these seemingly inconsequential moments make me smile. They make me remember and the memory is gentle and joyous.”

    Description

The Popcorn Gallery presents Muse, an exhibition by Blair Anderson, founder of SilverWorks Studio & Gallery in historic Glen Echo Park. Artist Blair Anderson revisits her inclination for themes with an all new, original collection that explores the nature of Muse. Using a variety of gemstones, precious metals and found objects, Anderson creates wearable art. This collection focuses on and depicts different deities in various cultures and how they interact and inspire artists. Some whimsical and some dead serious, these wearable depictions connect with the wearer either as an inspiration or the representation of what inspires.

Founder of SilverWorks Studio and Gallery, Anderson celebrates 15 years at Glen Echo Park with this collection. This exhibit will feature her work as well as the SilverWorks faculty, alumni, and student work.

Practicing the art since 1986, Anderson founded SilverWorks to make the joy of silversmithing more accessible with a teaching style that empowers the student. Her classes are playful and relaxed, designed to open the door for a student to discover their creative self. The two studios at Glen Echo Park offer workshops in a broad variety of smithing techniques and operate an Open Studio policy that allows students to practice their skills in a professional setting.
