"Evolving" is moving forward, as artists find new ways to express themselves through their work and explore new ways to develop within a common denominator and across the unlimited boundaries of alternative mediums. The exhibition’s theme challenges each of the juried members of the New Image Artists to dig through their archives and think about the roots of their past. The exhibition explores how the artists’ work has expanded and matured. Each work begins as the child colors outside the lines and evolves through life’s journeys. Join us for an evening discussion with Preston Sampson, a figurative expressionist painter whose work captures the essence of Black people throughout US history. He will discuss themes from his solo exhibition, Respite, on view in Glen Echo Park Partnership's Stone Tower Gallery through November 15, 2020.

In the exhibition, he portrays Black Americans enjoying simple pleasures. During a time of civil unrest and the fight for Black lives, Sampson's portraits create an environment for rest or relief.
