Common Thread is a solo exhibition featuring works created by artist Joy Nutt that showcase vibrant paintings patterned after traditional geometric quilts and elaborate collaged quilts. Joy's inspiration stems from a rich Trinidadian family tradition of quilting and sewing. Her work is also influenced by West African Ankara textiles. The artist aims for viewers to get lost in the complex layered paintings–returning to find a new perspective, ask questions, and leave with a sense of satisfaction after taking in color, pattern, and texture. Common Thread elevates the complexity of quilts and textiles and the fond memories that they evoke.
