The Stone Tower Gallery presents In Search of Lost Time, a group exhibition by artists Leslie King and Pat Scull.

Prior to entering the world of ceramic sculpture, Leslie King enjoyed a lifelong career working in the arts. After graduating from the University of Maryland in Theater, King worked as a puppeteer in New York City’s Central Park,  where she first developed her love of characters and their narratives.

The work in this exhibition consists of her figurative ceramic sculptures inspired from her memories, moments in time and retrospection of her varied creative life. While each piece is a narrative, the pieces featured in the exhibit combine King’s experience in theater and the mastery of the clay surface and form to represent character archetypes - the innocent, the villain, the hero, the everyman and the mentor.

As a child, Pat Scull lived near Glen Echo Park and remembers the thrill of the amusement park, the trolley, the wooden roller coaster, and the swimming pool. After visiting the park, both artists agreed it was wonderful to see the old buildings still intact. Scull is exhibiting her ceramic vessels that hold symbolic memories as she presents a variety of her playful though intricate pieces which range from her past to her present work.

Scull’s work comes from an iconography she has developed over the years, and her exploration of different media.  She is inspired by the people she meets and the stories they tell. With her ceramic sculpture she is attracted to abstraction and juxtaposing contrasting elements. She likes to wonder about how everything fits into the general cosmos, often paring abstracted telescopic imagery with the microscopic.
