    Description

Institute of Musical Traditions presents Anda Union (Mongolia/China)-- Indigenous music from the Inner Mongolian grasslands- in the Spanish Ballroom at 7:30pm!

Formed in 2000, Anda Union have influenced a generation of young Mongolians in Inner Mongolia as traditional music flourishes in the capital. Hailing from differing ethnic nomadic cultures, the ten strong band unite tribal and music traditions from all over Inner Mongolia. They do do so by bringing a wide range of musical instruments and vocal styles together in a fusion that Genghis Khan himself would have been proud of.Anda Union has toured extensively throughout the US and Canada in past years and recently has become famous in China, headlining festivals and playing large venues worldwide.

Competing on the Chinese version of "The Voice" they performed  their big song ‘Jangar'  in Mongolian with throat singing and horse head fiddles and were voted number one by the audience! Check it out here!

    Transcendental Light Orchestra
    Description

Glen Echo Park Partnership for Arts & Culture presents Transcendental Light Orchestra performing a live music concert in our Ballroom Back Room on December 14th, 2024, at 7pm.

Transcendental Light Orchestra (TLO), led by James Bazen, brings together a diverse group
of musicians to create a multi-layered sound from eclectic influences. Bazen’s instrumental arrangements and orchestrations of Christmas airs and dances transcend the traditional meaning of the melodies and give them a more universal appeal.

TLO combines Baroque guitar and recorder, jazz improvisation, Brazilian bossa, and lots of electric guitar shredding. All seamlessly intertwined to create a magical, mystical, musical journey.

Tickets $15 in advance ($20 at the door).

[ NOTE: Only one performance – at 7pm. We will not present a 9pm show. ]

From Baltimore, Md to Central Texas, Arty Hill packs the bars and dance floors with his unique brand of modern Honky Tonk. He sings with an "'everyman' quality…reminiscent of Johnny Cash." (Vintage Guitar Magazine). His songs - marrying the soul of classic country with the wry storytelling of Guy Clark and Townes Van Zandt - have been recorded by the Grammy-nominated Kenny and Amanda Smith Band, Alt-Country pioneer Jason Ringenberg, Rockabilly Queen Bee Marti Brom, and Austin’s Texas Sapphires, among others. His recordings have topped the FAR (Freeform American Roots) chart, and his songs have appeared in two seasons of "Gun it with Bennie Spies" on the Sportsman Channel and in the 2017 movie "I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore" starring Elijah Wood. Arty is also co-founder of the Hank Williams Songwriting Workshop in Montgomery, AL, and and instructor at the Augusta Heritage Center's Classic Country Week in Elkins, WVa. His 2021 release, "A Thousand Smoky Nights," features Arty and his top notch band, the Long Gone Daddys. It includes 11 new original tunes, plus a re-imagined version of the Arty and Linda Hill penned '"Mascara Tears," featuring vocalist Michelle Hannan. Telecaster master and legendary Lost Planet Airman Bill Kirchen says: "From the brash R n R of 'A Twang coming On' to the open heart surgery of 'Are You Sleeping,' there's a wealth of real deal Honky tonk in here."
