    Description

The sculptures in this group exhibition were created from the intriguing rough shapes made by wood turner Phil Brown (1937-2018) in the process of making his finely turned and perfectly finished bowls. Each of the collaborating professional sculptors or turners featured in the show works in a distinctive and personal approach, resulting in a wide variety of styles, forms, and sizes. The sculptors, all members of the Washington Sculptors Group, vary in their backgrounds and professional and life experiences. This exhibition curated by Phil Brown’s widow, art historian Barbara Wolanin, honors his legacy with sculptures he would have admired and as well as his strong connection with Glen Echo Park.

    Rhythm and Balance 2022

    12 pm - 6 pm

    Pottery Show
    Description

Glen Echo Pottery presents Rhythm and Balance 2022, a juried exhibit of recent ceramic artwork by instructors and advanced students in the Popcorn Gallery. Rhythm and balance are significant in all forms of design and art. In ceramic art, the forms created, the manner in which they are modified, decorated, glazed and even fired all contribute to the rhythm and balance of the final creation. This year, potters will present pieces that focus on the many ways they express rhythm and balance in their artwork. Size, shape, surface characteristics, color, all contribute to each unique handmade piece. The show is a celebration of the artists' uniqueness, and the uniqueness of the ceramic art they have created to share with viewers.
