Special Event Season Themes

Each year, the Glen Echo Park Partnership for Arts and Culture chooses a theme for the season of special events. Throughout the season, the Partnership presents new programming inspired by the year's theme.
 

2026 Theme | The Power of Place

This year, a special milestone is being celebrated at the Park. For a century, music from the carousel’s historic Wurlitzer 165 band organ has echoed through the Park and across Montgomery County—a soundtrack to generations and a witness to ten decades of local and American history. Now the Park is marking the instrument’s milestone year, alongside America’s 250th anniversary.

The Partnership’s 2026 season embraces this moment with the theme The Power of Place, weaving the “A250” celebration throughout a vibrant lineup of events.

The season kicks off with Carousel Day, featuring free performances highlighting music and dance from the African diaspora, honoring their enduring influence on American culture. The carousel’s role in local history—not just as a centerpiece of the Park, but as a site connected to the Washington, DC, civil rights movement—also takes the spotlight.

As part of Montgomery County Heritage Days programming, Park visitors are invited to enjoy free carousel rides in recognition of the 1960 Summer of Protest and participate in a history scavenger hunt showcasing the historic buildings and locations at the Park.

The Park's 2026 Summer Concert Series recognizes America's music history on its big birthday, featuring music spanning the last 100 years. As always, bands were picked for their danceability and audiences are invited to move along to the music, continuing the tradition of dance at Glen Echo Park. 

2025 Theme | Cultural Mosaic

The theme for the Glen Echo Park Partnership’s 2025 event season was arts as a cultural mosaic, symbolizing the richness of different cultures blending, yet maintaining their distinct identities. Visual and performing arts are powerful tools for celebrating both the individuality and interconnectedness of cultures. Like a mosaic, an art form where each piece contributes something unique and essential to the whole, we find unity, connection—and joy!—in our shared humanity through stories, music, dance, and other forms of creative expression. It’s all about celebrating different cultures coming together, each one adding its own unique voice while staying true to its roots. 

2024 Theme | Celebrating and Fostering Well-being

The theme for the Glen Echo Park Partnership’s 2024 event season was celebrating and fostering well-being. In support of this theme, which is inspired by the Partnership’s vision—to foster creativity and community well-being through the power of the arts and nature—the Partnership presented new programming to foster physical, mental, and community well-being.
