Nizette Brennan
The Sculpture Studio at Glen Echo was founded by American sculptor and educator Nizette Brennan, whose career began at the University of Maryland, College Park, and continued in Greece, Italy, New York City, and finally back in Washington, DC, where she maintained a productive studio at the Cathedral Stone yard while completing sculpture commissions for figurative works, gardens, fountains, plazas and other private and public artworks, including a GSA Art-in Architecture commission. Early in her career, Nizette was invited by Isamu Noguchi to work at his Long Island City studio and at the Noguchi Garden Museum. More recently, she was included in the important exhibit "Washington Art Matters," a retrospective at the American University Katzen Museum.
“The growth of her art is tied to an understanding of stone. From direct cutting comes knowledge of the nature of stone, and from this knowledge, the possibilities of its meaning. She has found her own meanings through the truth of stone.”
