Free Classes and Demonstrations

Try out one of our Fall programs with a free workshop! Classes and demos will be offered in a variety of visual and performing arts in the Hall of Mirrors and Bumper Car Pavilion. 


Hall of Mirrors Dance Studio

Creative Movement & Early Ballet for ages 3-6 with Metropolitan Ballet Theatre, free class (1pm – 1:25pm)
Beginning Ballet for ages 7-11 with Metropolitan Ballet Theatre, free class 1:30 – 1:55pm)
Yoga for All Levels with Geneva Moss, free class (2pm – 2:30pm)


Bumper Car Pavilion

Adventure Theatre MTC class demos for kids, theater readings and special promotions
Tango Dance demonstration with Rene Davila (12:15pm) then free Tango class (12:30 – 1:30pm); Ballroom Back Room
Suzuki Violin for kids demonstration for ages 3 ½ and up,  Presented by Washington Conservatory of Music (12:30pm)
Art Glass Center Demonstration (12 – 4pm)
•Enjoy a concert performance by Capital Horns (Presented by the Washington Conservatory of Music) (1:00pm)
•Learn about Yellow Barn Art Classes with instructors Barb Gruber, Eric Westbrook and more! (12 – 4pm)
•Learn about Creative Explorers early childhood programs and activities (12 – 4pm)
•Sample a Visual Arts class with instructor Meaghan Busch and observe demonstrations (12:30pm-1:15pm)
•Draw alongside Yellow Barn instructors Kiki McGrath and Alexandra Sherman for a taste of their upcoming September Experiential Drawing Workshop (2:30-3pm)
Glen Echo Pottery demonstrations and Teens can try a spin on the wheel (12 – 4pm)
•Learn about Mixed Media and Collage classes with Marcie Wolf-Hubbard and make Artist Trading cards (2-3pm)

Visit Resident Artist studios to see ongoing demonstrations and browse galleries in pottery, kilnformed glass, glassblowing and more!


•Explore Puppetry with Puppet Co. Playhouse Lobby Exhibit & Hands-on Marionettes (12 – 2pm and 2:30 – 4pm)
•Tour Photoworks Gallery- “Watch Me”, a Juried Youth Photography exhibit (12 – 4pm)
•Meet Art Glass Center Faculty, see studio exhibits and the "Visions & Voices 2017" exhibit in the Popcorn Gallery (11am - 6pm)
Glen Echo Park Aquarium, aquatic exhibits, touch tank, explore the Pirate ship (10am – 4pm, $6)
Saturday Art Explorers, Parent/Child drop-in art projects; $5/pair; $8 for adult & 2 children (Candy Corner)
Silverworks Studio and Studio 2 gallery exhibits and demonstrations (12 – 4pm)
Glen Echo Pottery open studio, gallery and demonstrations (12 – 4pm)

FREE and open to the public, the Open House for Classes is part of the weekend-long festivities at the park that will entertain the many visitors expected over the Labor Day holiday weekend. Other activities include the 47th annual Labor Day Art Show and an Irish Music & Dance Showcase.
