The Glen Echo Park Partnership is pleased to present Escape from Between the Lines, featuring paintings by Jeanne McManus and Sara Maddox. McManus and Maddox have escaped the narrow, black-and-white lines of professional editing and writing to find a world of color, concept, and experimentation. Once unburdened from their career obligations, they each found a world of freedom – one that also requires skill and dedication – but a more liberating one that the written word simply could not provide. In their paintings, they crack open the visible world and rearrange its parts in new forms and colors, often seeing human forms and stories emerge as they apply paint to canvas.

The Glen Echo Park Partnership presents 10 Years of SIlverWorks: Looking Back and Forward Looking by SilverWorks Resident Artist Blair Anderson. This exhibition displays a new collection of the silversmith’s works as well as a retrospective of the last nine collections, featuring a piece or photo from each. Anderson’s latest collection is a riff on her last 30 years of work. More than just wearable art, Anderson infuses her work with meaning. Each piece telling a story, making a connection to the potential wearer. Using relics, unconventional materials, as well as beautiful gemstones from around the world, this collection digs deep at the human condition, pokes fun at politicians, tackles social justice and honors science fiction all in beautiful adornments. In addition to student work, the exhibition will feature this year’s Exnihilo Residency Winner Noha Nader. Anderson first opened her studio in November 2009 with just three students in her Silver Saturday workshop. This year – ten years later – SilverWorks will have offered over 100 classes and workshops with a team of 10 instructors.

The Glen Echo Park Partnership presents More Obsessions: Thoughts and Things That Keep Living in My Head featuring work by F. Lennox Campello. A compulsive drive to work the same image or idea over and over is not particularly rare in the pages of art history. What drives those “obsessions” is a matter for debate, and for much furrowing of eyebrows at art schools across the planet, where it is generally considered a negative trait for an artist. Campello, who the Washington City Paper included a few years ago in their annual list of Washington’s most interesting people, not only relishes in returning to the same subject many times over, but in some cases, the “many times” have over the four decades of obsessions delivered interpretations now numbering in the hundreds for a single subject. A new obsession to Campello has been the incorporation of technology to help his other obsession (telling a story via his artwork) succeed. Video and sound become powerful narrative additions to his almost classical drawings.

American Swing presents a swing dance with live music with the World-Famous GLENN MILLER ORCHESTRA in the Spanish Ballroom.

Just saying the "Glenn Miller Orchestra" immediately conjures up images of the Big Band Era. Since the time he formed his own orchestra in 1937 until his untimely disappearance over the English Channel in 1944, the Glenn Miller Orchestra provided the music that was the backbone of the Lindy Hop era. Classic songs like Tuxedo Junction, Chattanooga Choo-Choo, Sunrise Serenade, Pennsylvania 6-5000, In the Mood, and more, will never go out of style.

The dance includes a beginner swing lesson with Tom & Debra from 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm.  Beginners are welcome and no partner is necessary.
