Location: Park View Gallery

Admission: Free

Fran Abrams' work in Unpainted Colors is created from polymer clay and is designed to be hung on the wall like a bas relief. Polymer clay is a man-made substance that begins as blocks of solid-colored clay-like material. The clay colors blend just like blending paints. Like many polymer clay artists, Abrams uses a pasta machine to condition the clay, to blend colors, and to achieve complex designs. Her work is unusual because of what is not there. There is no paint. All of the colors come from the clay itself. The focus is not only on blending the various color clays, but also on manipulating the results to express the themes of the pieces. The works are framed and presented without glass, allowing the viewer to see the intricacies of the designs.

In Paper Complex, artists Jessica Beels, Ellen Kennedy, and Saaraliisa Ylitalo display the myriad ways to manipulate paper. Their distinctive styles and techniques tell the stories of their individual explorations and artistic processes. The thoughtful details and conceptual designs in their works are meditative, inviting viewers to experience the complexities of paper transformation. Each work evokes a deeper meaning; our interaction with paper has cross-cultural differences and significances. This show meets at the intersection of acknowledging this everyday material and the limitless ways in which paper can be manipulated, transformed, and reimagined.

American Swing presents a swing dance with live music in the Spanish Ballroom.

Swing. Jump Blues. Vintage Lounge. Boogie Woogie. Formed in 2017, The Alpha Rhythm Kings have created quite a stir with music fans, having crafted an exciting California sound, with what Roots Music Magazine No Depression calls "the badge of authenticity." The band's top quality musicians, with Robert Dehlinger's blazing trumpet and "magnetic" singing (Jazz Corner) leading the way, are a favorite with swing dancers. Their debut recording, "California Boogie," featuring their exciting original arrangement of "Oh Marie," is a "truly happening party record" (Jazz Corner), and one of the "greatest swingin' releases worldwide" (Hey Mister Jesse).

The dance includes a beginner swing lesson with Tom & Debra from 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm. Band plays two sets 9:00 pm -11:45 pm; DJ music 11:45 pm - midnight. Beginners are welcome and no partner is necessary.
