Turning Wood into Art is an exhibition of works created by members of Montgomery County Woodturners (MCW). The show prompts visitors to see and appreciate the wide variety of wooden objects that can be created on a lathe. A primary goal of MCW is to enhance awareness of turned wood as both a craft and an art form by sharing an array of hand-made functional, decorative, and sculptural items.

MCW is a chapter of the American Association of Woodturners (AAW), based in Rockville MD. Organized in 2007 with goals of education, sharing, outreach, safety, and camaraderie, it is a diverse group of more than 80 woodturners of all ages, with skills varying from novice to professional. The common trait its members share is a passion to create beautifully turned, hand crafted objects from trees, most of which would otherwise be destined for the chipper or the fireplace.
