The Glen Echo Park Partnership is pleased to host Words Out Loud, a monthly spoken word series! 


Meetings typically take place the first Friday of each month and feature readings by accomplished authors, followed by literary trivia and an open mic session.


Room 302 is in the North Arcade building. Enter to the right of the neon POPCORN sign across from the Carousel and take the stairs or elevator to the third floor.


Feature Readings: 


Brenda Bunting is a Poet, Author, Spoken Word Artist and Workshop Facilitator. She is a
former Poet in Progress through the DC Commission on the Arts and the Humanities and a life
member of the Kentucky State Poetry Society (KSPS). A University of Kentucky alumna with her
B.A. in English, Brenda advocates for the therapeutic use of writing poetry for mental and
emotional wellness and healing from traumatic events. She was most recently published in,
“The Daily Abuse” Collection 2018. Her book, "Poems of Love and Violence In between Life and
Death 2nd Edition" is available for purchase on
Cliff Lynn was a Gong Show reject at 13, which naturally led to his sailing on submarines as a
young man. The honorary Poet Laureate of Tuscarora High School in Frederick, MD, Cliff also
survived a Literary Death Match at the Baltimore Museum of Art in 2010. Journals such as
Mount Hope, Smeuse, Free Lunch and Scribble have graciously published several baker's
dozens of Cliff's poems and short stories. Once at an Odenton coffeehouse, John Coltrane's
nephew played an original composition as Cliff read one of his poems aloud and a beautiful
dancer interpretively danced. With one Rocky Jones, Cliff co-created and co-hosts the Evil Grin poetry reading series in Annapolis, MD.

Delve into the music of various composers with Washington Conservatory 2018-19 artist-in-residence Stanislav Khristenko, the winner of the coveted Cleveland International Piano Competition prize and multiple other international piano competitions. Hear a series of performances and demonstrations by Mr. Khristenko and select Washington Conservatory students in this intimate series - each based on different composers or genres.


Parking is available in the main visitor parking lot located at 5801 Oxford Road.

Spoken Word Fiction offers writers of fiction, play script, memoir, or blog an opportunity to read their published or new work to an audience. Styles from Children to Literary are welcome. Each reader will receive a five to eight minute segment at the mic. Once the readings are complete, Roger or Kristin lead an improvisation exercise modeled after "It Was A Dark and Stormy Night." Though slanted toward prose, the hosts welcome creative people who express their vision through poetry. song, or acoustic music. Let's gather and make some noise!

Join us for a reception with wine and refreshments from 7pm-9pm in the Ballroom Back Room in conjunction with the Swing Dance in the historic Spanish Ballroom (9pm - midnight). If you are new to dancing or just want to enjoy the music, we will have an area in the Ballroom set aside for listening and viewing. 

Members receive two complimentary tickets to the Swing Dance. Additional tickets may be purchased in advance or at the door.

Glen Echo Park Partnership presents a swing dance with live music by Music Unlimited Big Band (MUBB) in the historic Spanish Ballroom. 


A beginner dance lesson will run from 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm and is included in the cost of admission. Following the lesson, dance from 9:00 pm to midnight. We encourage all to come out -- no partner or prior experience necessary! For more information about the dance, click HERE.
