The Glen Echo Park Partnership is pleased to host Words Out Loud, a monthly spoken word series!

Meetings typically take place the first Friday of each month and feature readings by accomplished authors, followed by literary trivia and an open mic session. The flyer for the February date is available HERE.

Featured authors this month:

Kristin Kowalski Ferragut has been a featured reader at DiVerse Gaithersburg Poetry and

is a regular contributor to open mics, at venues such as Words Out Loud. She participates

in local poetry and prose writing workshops, in addition to reading, biking, hiking and

teaching. Her work has appeared in Beltway Quarterly and Mercurial Stories.

Michelle Stokes is an in-progress novelist, aphorism author, poetess, and sometimes essayist. Much of her work has echoes of an earlier time as she developed a love for classic literature and the poetry of Bronte, Poe, Byron, Shakespeare, and Tennyson at an early age.  Reading these authors, as a child, did not give her her voice, but showed her where her voice had a home. Even more than their prowess with language, the classical masters were able to change atmosphere, quicken the pulse, and open up the human heart.  Michelle has once said “The heart, if it cannot be melted, must be cracked with an axe!”

Room 302 is in the North Arcade building. Enter to the right of the neon POPCORN sign across from the Carousel and take the stairs or elevator to the third floor.

Each reader will receive a five to eight minute segment at the mic. Once the readings are complete, Roger or Kristin lead an improvisation exercise modeled after "It Was A Dark and Stormy Night." Though slanted toward prose, the hosts welcome creative people who express their vision through poetry. song, or acoustic music. Let's gather and make some noise!
