The Glen Echo Park Partnership is pleased to host Words Out Loud, a monthly spoken word series! 


Meetings typically take place the first Friday of each month and feature readings by accomplished authors, followed by literary trivia and an open mic session. The flyer for the October date is available HERE. 


Featured authors this month:


Sean Enright's poems have appeared in Triquarterly, The Threepenny Review, The Sewanee Review and other literary magazines, plus the anthology Cabin Fever: Poets at Joaquin Miller's Cabin, 1984-2001.  He is the author of four books of poetry including, most recently, The Beautiful Ones (2017). He has also written two novels, Nearly True (2012), and Goof and Other Stories (2001).  His play, The Third Walking Gentleman was a semi-finalist for the 2007 National Playwright's Conference at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre Center.  Sean has taught writing workshops at the University of Maryland, the Writer's Center in Bethesda, Trinity College in Washington, DC and Montgomery College.  Currently he works at Montgomery College as a project manager.


Sheila Martel was raised in Nova Scotia and Montreal. A poet and preschool teacher, Sheila’s current work focuses on the themes of belonging and community.  She recently published a prose & poetry piece about her empty nest experience in Middle Grounds: Essays on Midlife Mothering. (Demeter Press:Toronto)


Room 302 is in the North Arcade building. Enter to the right of the neon POPCORN sign across from the carousel and take the stairs or elevator to the third floor.

Workshop for Teen Artists:

Preparing for Portfolio Day


The Washington, DC National Portfolio Day is on Saturday, November 17th. Join us for an informative, hands-on workshop designed to help students interested in pursuing a degree in the visual arts prepare to attend and get the most out of National Portfolio Day this year.


Learn what to expect, what to bring in your portfolio and what questions you should be ready to answer and ask.


This free workshop will also allow you to have a mock portfolio review by an Art Educator with many years of experience helping students prepare their portfolios for application to study art in college.  Increase your preparedness and gain confidence to attend Portfolio Day!

Fall Frolic 2018

Join us for a day of fall fun! Daytime activities for families will include pumpkin decorating ($2/ pumpkin), trick-or-treating in resident art studios and galleries, and a costume parade around the Park. Activities will run from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.
