Hear for yourself why Frankie Manning, one of the original Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers and an icon to the Swing World, called the Tom Cunningham Orchestra “the Swingin’est Band in all the Land!” The 16-piece orchestra’s appearances at Glen Echo Park are a Washington institution going back to 1983 and celebrated on TV, radio, newspapers and in books. So take a tip from The Washington Post’s Mike Joyce, “The Cunningham Band is bound to please.”

Enjoy a beginning swing lesson with Tom & Debra of Gottaswing at 8 pm, followed by dancing from 9 pm to midnight. No partner or prior experience needed.

The Glen Echo Park Partnership presents a swing dance with live music in the historic Spanish Ballroom. Tonight we are thrilled to welcome back the Blue Moon Big Band as they celebrate their 20th anniversary!

Tom & Debra from Gottaswing will be on hand to teach a beginner dance lesson from 8 - 9 pm (included in the cost of admission). Dancing to live music follows from 9 pm - midnight. No partner or prior experience needed.

Blue Moon Big Band has played at Glen Echo occasionally throughout the years, including a sold-out show in 1998 a few months after the band was formed. Since then, the band has recorded six albums and played dances and concerts all over the East Coast. They were featured on NPR's nationally broadcast Swingin' Down the Lane program and have played classic venues including NYC's Swing 46 Jazz & Supper Club. The band was selected to appear in the 2009 Kevin Bacon film, My One and Only, in which Bacon plays the bandleader. Throughout the years, Blue Moon Big Band has remained dedicated to producing an authentic Big Band sound and has procured hundreds of musical arrangements to make that possible. Whether you're a newcomer or know the band from way back, you won't want to miss this performance.

Drawing their musical influences from American roots music—swing, boogie woogie, rhythm & blues, soul, and Motown—Eight to the Bar is known for its outstanding instrumentalists and sophisticated musical and vocal arrangements, highlighted by female vocals. Through the support of independently-produced albums and videos, Eight to the Bar has cultivated a large, enthusiastic following that has put them in clubs from Disneyland to Disney World as well as Europe and the Caribbean. Their rigorous performing schedule (approximately 200 dates per year), has included opening spots for Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Manhattan Transfer, Robert Cray, Neil Young, Roy Orbison, and Ray Charles.

The dance includes a beginner swing lesson with Tom and Debra from 8-9 pm. Band plays two sets 9-11:45pm; DJ music 11:45pm-12midnight. Beginners are welcome and no partner is necessary.
