Glen Echo Park Partnership presents a swing dance with live music by Hot Club of Baltimore in the historic Spanish Ballroom.

A beginner dance lesson -- taught by Tom Koerner & Debra Sternberg of Gottaswing -- will run from 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm and is included in the cost of admission. Following the lesson will be dancing from 9:00 pm to midnight.

We encourage everyone to join us -- no partner or prior experience necessary!

The Hot Club of Baltimore performs inspired arrangements of the Django Reinhardt repertoire, French songs, and vintage Jazz. The ensemble boasts a variety of configurations, including an instrumental trio of two guitars and upright bass, a classic quintet with violin, a late 1940s instrumentation adding piano, drums, and horns, and a Django Big Band, which emulates the sound of the early 1950s when Reinhardt performed with Duke Ellington. The group often features captivating vocalist Alexis Tantau who sings in her native Occitan language as well as songs in French and English by Edith Piaf, Eartha Kitt, Charles Trenet, Maxine Sullivan, Jacques Dutronc, Ella Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee, and Henri Salvador.

The Spanish Ballroom, a beautifully restored 1933 Mediterranean style Art Deco building listed on the National Register of Historic Places, hosts nearly 200 dance events each year. It boasts a huge (110’ by 70’) hardwood dance floor that is beloved by dancers throughout the mid-Atlantic region.

All profits from this concert benefit the Glen Echo Park Partnership, which sponsors and hosts an extensive range of art classes, exhibitions, festivals, social dances, children’s theater, and music programs at Glen Echo Park in addition to preserving and maintaining the Park’s historic structures.
