Gala in the Park 2013
“Glimmer of Glass” was the theme for the 2013 Gala in the Park, which benefited the Glen Echo Park Partnership for Arts and Culture. The art glass theme was inspired by the brilliance of Italy’s glass traditions, and the gala was presented in collaboration with the Embassy of Italy. The Embassy’s Cultural Attache, Renato Miracco, gave a celebratory toast. Alison Starling of ABC 7/WJLA was emcee.
Maryland Lt. Governor Anthony Brown was honored in recognition of Maryland's continued support of the arts and humanities. Glen Echo Park's art glass studios, Glen Echo Glassworks and the Art Glass Center at Glen Echo, were also celebrated. William Gudenrath of The Corning Museum of Glass – one of the foremost authorities on glassmaking techniques from the ancient world through the 19th century – presented the award to Glen Echo Glassworks.
The gala included a reception, seated dinner, live music by the Boilermaker Jazz Band, dancing in the historic Spanish Ballroom, awards ceremony, silent auction, and carousel rides on our 1921 Dentzel carousel.
Over the past several years, the Gala in the Park has been featured in Washington Life magazine, WTOP’s “Man About Town” with Bob Madigan, and The Washington Post’s The Scene.
Many thanks to our generous Gala in the Park sponsors! All proceeds from the Gala in the Park help build a strong future for the arts and educational programs at the Park while also supporting the care and maintenance of the Park’s historic structures, including the Spanish Ballroom and the Dentzel carousel.
