“Glimmer of Glass” is the theme for the 2013 Gala in the Park, which benefits the Glen Echo Park Partnership for Arts and Culture. The art glass theme is inspired by the brilliance of Italy’s glass traditions, and the gala is presented in collaboration with the Embassy of Italy. The Embassy’s Cultural Attache, Renato Miracco, will give a celebratory toast. Alison Starling of ABC 7/WJLA will be our emcee.

Maryland Lt. Governor Anthony Brown will be honored in recognition of Maryland's continued support of the arts and humanities. Glen Echo Park's art glass studios, Glen Echo Glassworks and the Art Glass Center at Glen Echo, will also be celebrated. William Gudenrath of The Corning Museum of Glass – one of the foremost authorities on glassmaking techniques from the ancient world through the 19th century – will present the award to Glen Echo Glassworks.

The gala includes a reception, seated dinner, live music by the Boilermaker Jazz Band, dancing in the historic Spanish Ballroom, awards ceremony, silent auction, and carousel rides on our 1921 Dentzel carousel.

Over the past several years, the Gala in the Park has been featured in Washington Life magazine, WTOP’s “Man About Town” with Bob Madigan, and The Washington Post’s The Scene.
