Ceramics and Pottery

Glen Echo Pottery is a fully equipped studio that specializes in high temperature reduction firing with a year-round schedule of classes, daytime and evening. We also offer special classes highlighting Raku, soda/wood, and sawdust firing. Glen Echo Pottery offers a studio environment that is relaxed and informal, yet creatively serious. Drawing and Painting

The Yellow Barn Studio and Gallery is the painting residency at Glen Echo Park. Resident painter and instructor Walt Bartman's goal is to provide a place where those interested in painting can have the opportunity to meet, collaborate and display their work. The Yellow Barn Studio provides a variety of classes in watercolor, oil and acrylic painting for students at all levels representing a diversity of philosophies and approaches taken by the faculty.

Photography

Photoworks at Glen Echo Park is a unique learning center providing a personalized atmosphere for students to develop their visual talents in photography. Small classes, a variety of courses and a professional faculty of commercial and fine art photographers allow each student to develop his/her technical and aesthetic photo abilities.

The Photoworks Studio, a new facility in the Arcade building, is equipped for b/w film development and printing with an enlarger for each student, two film developing rooms, a mat cutting area, a digital area, and an exhibition space. All chemicals are provided. Students provide camera, film and paper. Laptops are encouraged for digital classes.

Kilnformed Glass

The Art Glass Center at Glen Echo is a resource center for kilnformed glass that serves the entire Washington metropolitan area. The Center is directed by four studio glass artists-in-residence, (Bobbi Vischi, Zayde Sleph, Christine Hekimian, and Diane Cabe) who are committed to both teaching and creating. These artists, plus several other professional glass artists, offer a variety of classes in kilnforming, kiln casting, the roll-up technique, pate de verre, Venetian glass bead making, flameworking, color and design, painting and silk-screening on glass, stained glass, and architectural installations. Center members exhibit their works both locally and nationally, and have received awards for excellence in their art. The Center's Arcade Glass Studio and Gallery are open to the public Friday - Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and by appointment. For further information email BBVischi@comcast.net.



Blown Glass

Glassworks at Glen Echo Park is the D.C. area's first glass school. Classes are taught each quarter for novice and advanced students. When classes are not in session, the studio is open for visitors to observe glassblowing and view the work of resident artists Rick Sherbert. Fiber Arts

We are pleased to welcome a new resident arts program, New Directions Fiber, with artist Barb Bancroft. Learn about the art of needle felting with wool and take one of several new workshops being offered. Visit the New Directions Fiber Studio on the second floor of the newly rebuilt Yellow Barn building.



Mixed Media and Surface Design

We are pleased to welcome a new resident arts program, Bonnie Lee Holland Art and Creativity Lab. Learn about textile and surface design and creativity and take one of several new classes being offered. Visit her studio on the first floor of the newly rebuilt Yellow Barn building, at the north end near the Pottery yurts.



Calligraphy

Learn the art of calligraphy with artist Alana Hunter at Feather Tree Hill Studio. Classes and camps in calligraphy, handwriting improvement and creative paper crafts are offered for all ages.



Other Arts and Media Offerings

We offer a variety of arts and media classes in addition to those listed above, including beading and jewelry, clay sculpture, stone carving, cartooning, animation, bookmaking, printmaking, polymer clay, silk painting and other topics.



Music

Learn to play the guitar or hone your skills in one of several guitar classes. Classes are available for both children and adults. New classes in piano instruction are also available for the adult beginner. It's never too late to learn the piano! See current catalog for class details.

Writing

The Writer's Center was founded in 1976 and has become one of the leading independent literary centers in the United States. It is an open membership organization of 2,500 writers, editors, students, small-press publishers and other artists. The goal is to promote the art of writing and to build a community of writers, workshop leaders, publishers and audiences for contemporary writing. They offer workshops year-round for writers of all ages and abilities in fiction, feature writing, essay, memoir, poetry, playwriting and screenwriting, and business writing. The Partnership is pleased to welcome the Writer's Center to the Park with several workshops for adults and children. To register for classes please visit their website directly.
