One Sunday morning each month, photo enthusiasts of all sorts meet at Photoworks Gallery to share their work. Fueled by bagels and coffee, they join in lively conversation led by a Photoworks faculty member. Each participant, whether beginner or pro, has an opportunity to spread out prints on one of the big tables and receive thoughtful feedback and helpful suggestions. The popular, free event is a great way to meet others who are passionate about photography.

Coffee and Critique – Open Shutter highlights work by C&C members – some who have participated for years and others who are new to the group. Photographs exhibited range from bold portraits, to luminous landscapes, and textured minimalist images.

The artists exhibiting work in the show include:

Beth Altman
David Mosher

"Dorte Verner: The Wonder People" is a series of portraits of children and adults caught in the global refugee crisis. Photographer Dorte Verner captured the exhibited photographs of people from Afghanistan, Burundi, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Iraq, Kurdistan, Myanmar, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Syria and more over the past one and a half years. The exhibit focuses on forced displacement caused by manmade conflict and violence. The photographs are a rare look into the life of "The Wonder People" around the globe.

Dorte Verner was born in Denmark and is a global citizen. She is a self-taught photographer and a Ph.D. economist. Dorte's work focuses on bringing attention to people with little voice and that often are vulnerable. Her background and development knowledge gives her an advantage in understanding people's reality and environment which translates in her photographs.
