Swing Dance
Saturday, January 13, 8:00 pm - midnight
Presenter: American Swing Recommended Ages: All ages welcome Location: Spanish Ballroom Admission: $30 at the door Contact Email: Debra@gottaswing.com http://www.americanswing.org
American Swing presents Cherry Poppin' Daddies in the Spanish Ballroom!
It's the 20th anniversary of the song that was there at the very beginning of the Great Lindy Hop Revival of 1998! The CHERRY POPPIN' DADDIES released "Zoot Suit Riot" just as the nation, and the world, went insane for Lindy Hop. Gottaswing is ECSTATIC to be presenting this legendary band at their very first swing dance at the beautiful Spanish Ballroom.
Ever since they first formed some 25 years ago, the Cherry Poppin’ Daddies made it their mission to veer from genre to genre across the musical map, choosing to follow their own muse regardless of feedback from fans and critics alike. Truth be told, individuality and defiance have always been part of the band’s DNA, and have, in turn, reinforced their rebellious reputation. Granted, though that image is well deserved, the ability to bend the boundaries has been simultaneously tempered and informed by an adherence to an older, now vanished tradition, grounded in Tin Pan Alley, Swing music and the great American songbook. We are going to have a BALL.
The dance includes a beginner swing lesson with Tom & Debra from 8 - 9 pm, followed by dancing from 9 pm - midnight. Beginners are welcome and no partner is necessary.

Swing Dance
Saturday, January 27, 8:00 pm - midnight
Presenter: Craig Gildner Big Band Recommended Ages: All ages welcome Location: Spanish Ballroom Admission: $18 general / $14 students Contact Email: craig@bluesky5.com http://www.cgbigswing.com/
The Craig Gildner Big Band presents a swing dance with live music in the historic Spanish Ballroom!
The Craig Gildner Big Band is a thirteen piece repertoire orchestra authentically recreating the sounds of the swing era made famous by Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Artie Shaw and others. Arrangements are direct transcriptions and stock selections that would have been played back in the day by bands across the country. Adding to the period feel, the rhythm section boasts calfskin drums arranged in a manner much like Krupa’s, gut wound bass strings, acoustic rhythm guitar on a vintage Gibson L7, and stride piano solos.
The musicianship is of the highest caliber. Bandleader Craig Gildner handpicked each and every section from DC’s pool of talented musicians. The band can whisper and scream… and everything in between…all in just one song!
Enjoy a beginner swing dance lesson at 8:00 pm (included in the admission), followed by dancing until midnight. No partner or prior experience needed.
