The elegance of 17th-century France, combining elaborate costumes of the Comedie-Francaise and Offenbach's "Gaiety Parisian" to adorn the tale of the cinder girl who captures the heart of the handsome prince. The production was acclaimed at the 1997 National Puppet Festival, and performed by invitation at the Center for Puppetry Arts, in Atlanta.

Washington Folk Festival 2017

The Washington Folk Festival is back for its 37th year at Glen Echo Park. This FREE festival, presented by the Folklore Society of Greater Washington in collaboration with the Glen Echo Park Partnership, celebrates the many folk music, dance and craft traditions of the greater Washington area. The Festival features over 450 of the best traditional musicians, storytellers, dancers, and craftspeople in the region.

 

Five stages simultaneously present music and dance for a total of nearly 70 hours of live performance. The festival also includes a storytelling stage, dance workshops in the Spanish Ballroom, a craft marketplace in the Bumper Car Pavilion, and many spontaneous picking sessions in the Park’s picnic grove.

Funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts, the tale follows closely the original story in L. Frank Baum's first, best known and best-loved of the classic Oz tales. There are more adventures than included in the film, more of Baum's original dialogue is included, and the witch plays only a minor (less scary) role.
