Tom and Debra of Gottaswing will teach a beginner dance lesson from 8 - 9 pm (included in the cost of admission), followed by dancing from 9 pm - midnight. No partner or prior experience needed.

When Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. showed up to audition for NBC TV’s America’s Got Talent in 2010, he was singing to pass the time while grinding out a living washing cars in his hometown of Logan, WV (population 3,000). He wowed the show’s judges with his back-story of homelessness and determination, and his interpretations of classics from Cole Porter, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra and others. Landau walked away with the million dollar grand prize in front of 14 million weekly viewers. According to show insiders, when all was said and done, Landau had won America’s Got Talent by the biggest vote total in the show’s history.

In November 2011, Landau released his Columbia Records debut album “That’s Life.” The CD hit #1 on the Billboard Jazz chart in time for Christmas and was produced by Grammy winner Steve Tyrell. Landau has sold out hundreds of concerts across three continents, from Caesars Palace to the Apollo Theater and all points in between. He has performed duets with childhood heroes Patti Labelle and Glenn Leonard (former lead vocalist for The Temptations), and has raised more than a million dollars for children’s and homeless charities via his holiday CD and personal appearances.

Landau has appeared on The Today Show, The View, CNN, Fox and Friends, The Wendy Williams Show, The Talk, Anderson Cooper, NPR, and dozens of other local and national media outlets. Landau was named his home state’s “West Virginian of the Year,” and is often called on by The Governor’s Office and others to represent the state, and played a special command performance at the Governor’s Inauguration. He won Reality TV Personality of the Year in Hollywood, and was nominated for an NAACP Image Award.

Join American Swing tonight with a "Battle of the Rockabilly Bands" featuring the Rock-a-Sonics and Ryan Cain & The Ables.

Tom Bowes, Willie Barry, Eric Hurt, Louie Newmyer and Kim Reynolds form the newest rockabilly and early rock-n-roll group in the DC area, the Rock-A-Sonics. Originally formed just to play at a Buddy Holly tribute, they quickly realized this combination should be a going concern, and we know you will agree! The Sonics have quickly become a favorite of the DC swing dance community.

The calendar may say 2017, but Ryan Cain thinks it's still 1957. From his hair tonic to his 1955 Philco refrigerator, every aspect of his life is vintage, including a love of traditional Hillbilly and Western Swing. With Evan Jones on electric bass guitar and acoustic guitar, Brandon Elmore on upright bass and acoustic guitar and Gary Hamrick on drums, Ryan Cain and the Ables put their own take on the Rockabilly and Rock and Roll we love to dance to. We are thrilled to welcome Ryan Cain and the Ables as they share the stage at the Spanish Ballroom with the Rock-A-Sonics. What a night!

The dance includes a beginner swing lesson with Tom and Debra from 8 –9 pm, followed by dancing from 9 pm – midnight. Beginners are welcome and no partner is necessary.
