What fun--we've got TWO Baltimore bands onstage for your dancing pleasure!

Do you like old stuff? Or new stuff? Dancing? Beards? Then the New Old Fashioneds have at least one thing you may like. Made up of a few of Baltimore's best musicians, a few of its most notorious personalities, and some other people that definitely count, the New Old Fashioneds play traditional jazz songs designed to make you dance.

Led by Mike Faltesek, Falty & the Defects like to play, good old fashioned, hard swinging jazz and blues for listening, or preferably hip-shaking audiences. Falty & the Defects play everything, from sultry and slow to energetic and silly. Their infectious energy spreads from the stage to the audience from the first downbeat and has a way of getting people to start to tap their foot or to shake uncontrollably.

The dance includes a beginner swing lesson with Tom and Debra from 8 - 9 pm, followed by dancing from 9 pm - midnight.  Beginners are welcome and no partner is necessary.

The Glen Echo Park Partnership presents a swing dance with Dirty Rice Jazz Band in the historic Spanish Ballroom. Dirty Rice Jazz Band plays New Orleans style traditional jazz and music from masters like Duke Ellington and George Gershwin.

This 6-piece ensemble is made up some of the areas most seasoned and celebrated musicians, and it wouldn't be a stretch to call Dirty Rice a supergroup. Bandleader Ben Redwine (clarinet) was a soloist with the US Naval Academy Band for many years and now lives and plays in New Orleans and around the world. He has been called a virtuoso for his mastery of both classical and jazz clarinet. John Previti (bass) and Barry Hart (drums) have been playing together for decades, including with guitar great Danny Gatton. Tom Mitchell (guitar), Vince McCool (trumpet), and John Jensen (trombone) - all in-demand veterans of the DC and Baltimore swing and jazz scenes - round out the band.

There will be a beginner Swing dance lesson from 8 - 9 pm taught by local favorites Dabe & Janelle. The lesson is included in the price of admission. No partner or prior experience needed. Dancing to live music runs from 9 pm - midnight.

Come ring in the New Year with the Tom Cunningham Orchestra in the Spanish Ballroom! Hear for yourself why Frankie Manning, one of the original Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers and an icon to the Swing World, called the Tom Cunningham Orchestra “the Swingin’est Band in all the Land!” The 16-piece orchestra’s appearances at Glen Echo Park are a Washington institution going back to 1983 and celebrated on TV, radio, newspapers and in books. So take a tip from The Washington Post’s Mike Joyce, “The Cunningham Band is bound to please.”

Beginning swing lesson at 8 pm is followed by dancing from 9 pm to 12:30 am (no partner or prior dance experience needed).  Light refreshments will be served.

You may purchase adult tickets ($25) online at NYE Swing Dance Tickets (children's tickets may be purchased at the door). A limited number of adult tickets are also sold at the door.
