Let's get into the nitty-gritty of the Swingout and explore different ways to be more creative with your swingout while still feeling good. Learn how to be more efficient and clear with your ideas for both followers and leaders. You'll work on swivels, forward momentum, rotational ideas, and more.

Flow-mentum and Redirection (2:40 - 3:40 pm)Let's create a dynamic dance that embraces organic movement all while being creative and interesting. This class looks at how to make better choices on the social dance floor while working on some cool new moves! Four-count, six-count, eight-count—it is all about increments of two and using natural flow!

American Swing's Jitterbug Jamboree continues with a swing dance in the Spanish Ballroom and a special dance competition!

Home grown in Los Angeles and refined over thirteen years, Phat Cat Swinger is a 10-piece “little-big band” with a West Coast sound that brings style, class, charisma and an explosive energy to the stage. Combine their ingenious song list with a powerful 5-piece horn section, jumpin' rhythm section and their Canadian Crooner, Curtis Parry, and you've got a recipe for an instant party. Phat Cat Swinger made their debut performance with Gottaswing in April and blew the roof off. We are delighted to have them join us again!

Making tonight even more special, it's the Third Annual Virginia State Jitterbug and Lindy Hop Competition. Grab a partner and join the competition, or come out to cheer on your favorite dancers. Get more details on prizes and entry rules at Gottaswing.com.

As part of their Jitterbug Jamboree, American Swing presents an afternoon of swing dance workshops with acclaimed teachers and dancers Carla Heiney and Marty Lau. Carla Heiney is a former World and U.S. Lindy Hop Champion and Marty is a well-known competitor and teacher, especially of Balboa. They will present three intermediate/advanced classes:

Mixing Rhythms (12:00 - 1:00 pm)We will be looking at different ways to move through your dance and still create harmony with your partner and the music. This is a little glimpse into how to get started with your improvisation and create more flow and options in your dancing.

Improvisation, Styling, and All That Jazz! (1:20 - 2:20 pm)You have learned the dance, but now you need to "become" the dance and showcase who you really are as a dancer. We will explore how you can express yourself as a dancer and still connect with your partner and the music.

Building a Dance (2:40 - 3:40 pm)Your chance to put it all together on the dance floor. How do the best dancers create a memorable and exciting dance? Let's create the ebbs and flows, highs and lows of a good dance and get started on the right foot to set up success. The class will utilize a mini-routine format to accomplish some of these goals, but it's all about building upon social dance techniques.

Classes are $20/each, advance registration (register at http://www.gottaswing.com/jitterbug-jamboree-sunday-classes/) or $25/each at the door.

Hear for yourself why Frankie Manning, one of the original Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers and an icon to the Swing World, called the Tom Cunningham Orchestra “the Swingin’est Band in all the Land!” The 16-piece orchestra’s appearances at Glen Echo Park are a Washington institution going back to 1983 and celebrated on TV, radio, newspapers and in books. So take a tip from The Washington Post’s Mike Joyce, “The Cunningham Band is bound to please.”

Enjoy a beginning swing lesson with Tom & Debra of Gottaswing at 8 pm, followed by dancing from 9 pm to midnight. No partner or prior experience needed.

We are thrilled to have a special guest tonight - Ms. Jean Veloz! Jean Phelps Veloz, the icon of Hollywood-Style Lindy to generations of swing dancers, provides a living bridge from the the Los Angeles dance scene of the 1940s to the present-day Lindy Hop revival.
